What do you think is the hardest to play in Guildwars?

I would say the Monk is by far the hardest to play of all of the options to play. You have the issue of watching the player’s health bars the whole game, which takes, allot of focus. You have engery management to deal with. You have to be aware of what is around you at all times while looking at everyone’s health bars. You have to make split second choices on what skills to use Health Vs engery cost.

I have found playing Monk and I have played the Monk allot as mine has all the skills in the first 3 games and 2 titles to go with it that most of the time people only say bad things about monks when playing. I have found most players that die its because they have cause this to happen. You are to far out of range, you arrgo too much, you did not let the monks engery recharge, your armor is not up to par with the area you are in. Monks take lots of flak and I would say try one sometime. Sit in their shoes and you will get to understand just how hard it is to play. There is a reason Monks are hard to come by because allot of player’s start one and see this is hard and stressful it is and delete it after a short time.

So lets give Monks a break they do the best they can. And without monks we would not get very far in this game.

Thanks Scott

Good points Scott.
I still remember the Monk Strikes last year that brought the the Fire Island Missions to a standstill.
I too have played my monk extensively ( heck until a few months ago is was my char with the most hours ) and find that it is the hardest to master.

Let's put it this way, henchies most of the time work. However,
they are usually the first ones to die as foes target them and they are not programmed to avoid combat.
Heroes are a bit better but again not programmed to get out ( unless you flag them )of the area then return to rez once things have quieted down.

So if you don't have one, try it out. I guarantee it will give you a new outlook on that profession..

I think another that takes some getting use to is a Mez. Your whole style of play changes as you are scanning monsters to interupt there skills. Again you have split second choises to make as to what ones you interupt and what ones you let pass. I would say do not make a Mez till you have tried the other char first. That way you know what skills they are trying to use and understand what they do.

Thanks Scott

I have both a monk and a mesmer, my two favourite characters in fact. And they are both incredibly different than any other profession. Nobody understands how stressful being a monk is. There's always that one time that you've never done a mission before and you want to see what's going on and in that split second someone (usually the warrior) runs in and kills himself (or herself). Then as the monk you get yelled at. You can tell people who have never played a monk, because they don't understand the whole range thing. If you're already up the hill away from the group, I can't heal you.

Mesmers are equally stressful. So many powerful attacks and spells but, like Scott said, in a big group of foes you have to pick and choose your battles. Which bad guys are most likely to do the most damage? My mesmer was the first character I put a lot of hours into without playing my other characters. I walked blindly into most missions and mass panic ensued.

Great post Scott!

Thanks for posting this Scott. I would also like to touch upon something else which annoys the heck out of me that goes hand in hand with being a monk:

Don't assume that a monk can rez you so carry Rez! While being a monk, I've had people say "I don't need to carry Rez! That's your job!" Well, yeah it is but I hate to say it but A DEAD MONK ISN'T GOING TO BE ABLE TO REZ YOU!.

I've been in missions where we were on the last leg of the mission and everyone but one person dies. When we start saying "Rez the monk!" He/she starts telling us "Oh, I didn't equip rez!" Guess what, we all know that there's no way that person will get through the mission unless he's got us with him and the mission ends up lost.

I know for most of you, you feel that this is common sense but you'd be amazed how many people in the guild say "Oh I don't need rez!" But since monks are also the first to be targeted, You should carry it. There is nothing weak about carrying rez! Rez can make the difference between whether you finish a mission or not so PLEASE, CARRY REZ!

I would agree with you on that on lol. I have all my Heroes carry rebirth. Yes it does hinder sometimes the builds a can use but I can always count on them to get me and others out of a Jam. I to have been in that spot with my Monk lol all to many times. Players just think we do not die lol. Well like you said the Bad Guys like us alot lol NOT. So its always a good idea to ask if they have rez before going out on a mission with Pugs

Thanks Scott
